The Social and Economic Development pillar focuses on the human and social well-being of the Somalia people. Area Gurdam Party will give priority include education, health, IDP’s youth, and women empowerment. Social and Economic will entail building quality public schools, hospitals, affordable housing, resettling IDPs, and creating employment opportunities for our young people.

The people and the Nation of Somalia have suffered enough for the better part of the last three decades. The Gurmad Party will lead a government that will advocate and address the social welfare and the well-being and dignity of every Somali citizen regardless of the socio-economic status.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & JOB’S FOR YOUTH

We envision economically prosperous Somalia with robust strong agenda for economic development and jobs for our burgeoning youth population. We are committed to the protection and efficient use of our natural resources for the benefit of our people. We believe in private sector based economy with the government providing guidance and support through economic policies, laws, regulations, and taxation regimes. And we are committed to a transformative yet sustainable development and improvement of livelihoods for our people.

ESSENTIAL INFRASTRUCTURE FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Infrastructure is essential for economic development in Somalia and enabler of commerce and trade. Lack of infrastructure constrains economic growth and depresses employment opportunities. It is also essential for the free movement of people and goods, which plays a role in connecting people at many levels. A functioning infrastructure will remove geographic barriers and isolation, enabling more frequent and deeper contacts among citizens from different parts of the country.

This movement and interaction of people will contribute to reconciliations as interactions among people increase, mistrust diminishes, and common interests take root. Embarking on major infrastructure build-out will also create jobs for the thousands of unemployed and contribute to security by offering hope and employment opportunities for our youth.

Given the state of the infrastructure in our country, major pushes to build ports, airports, roads, generate and distribute affordable energy, and expansion of telecommunications and Internet availability is necessary.

GURMAD INSFRASTRUCTURE PLAN

Therefore, we plan to

  • Build new ports or modernize existing ones, build a new international airport, build major highways from Mogadishu to Baidoa, Mogadishu to Bosaso, Mogadishu to Kismayo; and road links to neighboring countries to integrate our economy with regional economies
  • Assess our national needs and develop a strategy to build the capacity to generate renewable energy to cover 50% of the needs of the productive sectors and consumers
  • Expand telecommunication and Internet access to all regions, towns, and villages. All schools and clinics would have access to basic Internet
  • Fund infrastructure needs through a mix of private domestic investments and public-private partnerships guided by government policies

Given the state of the infrastructure in our country, major pushes to build ports, airports, roads, generate and distribute affordable energy, and expansion of telecommunications and Internet availability is necessary.

GURMAD INSFRASTRUCTURE PLAN
ECONOMIC GROWTH AGENDA

We intend to develop our resources for the benefit of our people by rebuilding and reforming key government institutions that have a role in economic growth. A key and essential component of our economic development strategy is the creation of jobs in both the public and private sectors.

The key deliverables of our economic growth agenda will include:

  • Establishing capacitated revenue authority to generate national revenue
  • Creating 500,000 jobs nationally in four years through infrastructure development projects; public sector job growth; and in new businesses and expansion of current businesses in the private sector
  • Creating an independent board to oversee national regulatory reform, the removal of barriers to business creation, promotion of fair competition, and creation of business friendly regulatory environment that is conducive to investments
  • Attracting Somali Diaspora investors as well other investors from abroad. We will promote public private partnerships, ensuring they serve the national interest and are aligned with our government priorities
  • Engaging in serious public private sector dialogue to redefine the responsibilities and the obligations of the government and the private sector in the economy
  • Eliminating market distortions and fighting the scourge of corruption to promote investments. These are major impediments to economic development. They inhibit business formation, entrepreneurship, and innovation. More insidiously they erode the legitimacy and trust in public institutions

Taking corruption seriously and laying the foundations for responsible, transparent and accountable institutions
