National dialogue/reconciliation is one of the main priorities of the Gurmad Political Party. We want to ensure the progress of the national reconciliation process through all means.

State Building and National Reconciliation

To support the Somali State and peace-building initiatives, the Gurmad-led government will be committed to the democratic governance process in state and a peace-building framework. The government will impark a stakeholder and public consultation at the national level to achieve a vibrant, prosperous, and democratic Somalia We believe the current system that is based on unequivocally discriminatory “4.5 power-sharing formula” will not and cannot move Somalia forward in the 21st Century.

The Gurmad-led government will identify challenges and obstacles to sustainable governance and peacebuilding and a shared vision and long-lasting solutions for state and peacebuilding for Somalia. Gurmad envisions a sovereign Somalia with secure borders and in harmony with its neighbors. Gurmad sets an agenda for visionary leadership that makes the best of the available diplomatic support and resources to put Somalia on the path of stability as a dignified sovereign state.

The Gurmad Party believes in genuine national unity. Our party will recognize the critical importance of establishing an independent reconciliation commission made of Somali peacemakers including women and marginalized communities from all sectors of the society and clan.

The Gurmad-led government will find ways to heal the wounds and scars our people sustained in the last quarter of a century. There cannot be a genuine dialogue on a national destiny until the festering mistrust among our citizens is addressed. We need to begin knitting the fabric of our society, emphasizing the values inherent in our homogeneity of religion, geographic destiny, and cultural heritage. These links that united us are far deeper and more lasting, and above all, they will enable us to regain our footing once again so that we can rebuild our nation and state.

We believe in the primacy of unity (through societal reawakening) and reconciliation as prerequisites for nation-building. Until the simmering grievances in our society are openly aired, discussed, and resolved, recrimination and conflict will continue to plague us.

In order to achieve true national unity, Gurmad Party is committed to a united and sovereign Somalia with opportunities for all citizens. The tenets of our reconciliation goals will include,

Commissioning of blue-ribbon distinguished Somali scholars and learned religious leaders to lead and develop a comprehensive strategy for societal reconciliations. We will support the restoration of private and public property to legitimate owners through due process of law. The Gurmad Party will promote reconciliations based on the airing of grievances, forgiveness, and institutional mechanisms to prevent future atrocities and abuses.
